A New 'Do' For Two

Monday night the kids go haircuts. Well, Kimble and Koltyn did. Karter wormed his way out by falling asleep early. Koltyn's hair was starting to stand straight up and it needed to go. Kimble only gets her hair cut once a year, so it was just time. Thank you to Kevin for tackling the task.

More Family Time

Saturday, after a quick game of white elephant at Tumbleweed Park, we went to Organ Stop Pizza with the Johnson family (including most of Kevin's cousins). We did not exactly have positive memories of this restaurant, so we were pleasantly surprised that the pizza is now edible. The music has not changed, however. It is still just as loud as it has always been. Really, it was just fun to be out with our family.

We decided to take advantage of being so close to the temple , plus we love to see the temple lights, so we made one more trip over with the Johnson family. It was just as awesome as our first visit.

Santa Came to Our House

The day had finally come... and the kids picked this day to "sleep in." They are usually up before 6:30, but slept until 7:00 Christmas day. Either way, Santa had come and brought presents. Kimble and Karter loved the motorcycles, as Kimble calls them. Even the fruit snacks in their stockings were a big hit. They even got ZuZu pets from Grandma & Papa Johnson. After letting them open their gifts, there were not very many, we turned on a movie, Gumby, and Kevin & I opened our presents together. By the time we were done Koltyn was awake and it was his turn. He is obviously not old enough to open his own presents, but he loved to eat the wrapping paper that came from them.

Kevin decided that he had to make some sweet bread like his mom used to do. It looked really yummy, but the middle was not quite done. So we just picked around the outside.

We had to get a picture of Koltyn in his "First Christmas" shirt. Kevin's sister, Julie, gave it to us. So cute!

I got a mini tripod for my camera the night before, so we tried it out by taking a family picture in front of our tree before heading out. It worked well and even fits inside our camera case. It will definitely come in handy in the future.

We went back to my parents and opened more presents. We spent the rest of the day over there playing and getting ready for a family party that night. Kevin and Koltyn were a little worn out and grabbed a quick nap on the couch.

After dinner, we had the kids act out the nativity one more time. Each re-enactment Kimble was a different figure. First, the donkey; then, Mary; and finally, the angel. She was a little sad that the costume did not include wings, so she just flapped her arms to pretend.

It was another late night for us, but is was great to be surrounded by family. We love spending time together and always have great food to eat. But we are especially grateful that live so close to our family and that we were able to celebrate the birth of our Savior we the people that we love.

Christmas Eve Means Tradition

Every year, since we have been married, we spend Christmas eve night with my family. We had a yummy dinner like always and then continued with some of our annual traditions. First, reading the nativity story. My mom made these cute hand puppets a couple years ago to help keep the kids interested. My brother, Ryan, got a little more into it than Karter did.

Then, my mom had gotten wood ornaments to color. Kimble was looking forward to this activity, probably because she is so totally into coloring right now. She even displayed her masterpieces when she finished. Karter was happy to share his ornaments with me, too.

We usually make gingerbread houses (well, graham cracker houses). The kids made ice cream cone trees this year. Kevin decided that his tree needed a house along side. Karter got a little too into it and got frosting in his hair. What a silly guy!

The time for presents finally came at the end of the night. Kimble and Karter both got perfect presents. For some reason, Kimble is really loving old school Gumby. Karter is always happy to get more cars.

We made sure to get the kids in their jammies before leaving. Koltyn got to wear the traditional "Baby's First Christmas" pajamas. Each of the other kids wore these for their first Christmas also. Love it!

Rockin' Family Party

Saturday night we celebrated Christmas with Kevin's family out in Peoria. It was so much fun!! It was activity after activity... all of which kept the kids happy. First up, the kids made their own mini pizzas for dinner. While the adults enjoyed take out from Macayos, the kids feasted on their creations. YUM!

The first activity after dinner was playing the chimes. Each of the kids got a numbered chime and a striking stick. Sharon pointed to each number as the kids tapped along. The first attempt was not great, but by the third song we could actually recognize what they were playing.

Grandma Johnson was able to convince most of the grandkids to participate in the Nativity. Kimble was super excited to play the donkey (after all, it is almost like a horse). Our camel, Karter, on the other hand was not as cooperative. All the kids looked so cute and did a great job.

The time Kimble was waiting for all day had finally come... the gift exchange. We all got such great gifts. Kimble and Karter have not stopped playing with their new toys.

We took the kids on a "hayride" through the neighborhood. The kids all enjoyed singing as loudly as they could to spread some holiday cheer. Although we only saw two people outside, we had a good time and realized that we don't really know the words to carols we have heard all our lives.

After returning from our caroling trip, Santa made an appearance with gifts for the little ones. Kimble and Karter were a little afraid (they didn't realize it was Kevin under the suit) and only went up to get their present. Koltyn was not afraid one bit!

The kids are now even more exctied for Christmas to come!

Gingerbread Train

A couple weeks ago, my grandma brought over a gingerbread train kit for the kids. They could not wait to put it together. I made them wait until Kevin got home, he loves these types of projects, so that he could be our engineer.

The train looked great. But the kids, and Kevin, could not wait to put the candy on. Well, it quickly fell in on itself and no longer looked anything like what we intended. In the end, the kids had fun decorating the blob and letting daddy stick frosting and candy on their faces.
